Round Two Chronicles the Story of the Sean Wotherspoon’s Nike Air Max 1/97 Collab

To mark Air Max Day 2020, Round Two released a special video chronicling the story behind co-founder Sean Wotherspoon's Nike Air Max 1/97 collaboration. Revealing just how the collaborative shoe that has become highly sought-after in the sneaker world came to be.

Highlighting all the steps in between concept to release, the special video look starts with documentation of a diverse cast of collaborators helping ideate for the submission to the Nike: On Air 2018 contest. Wotherspoon, Ben Baller, A$AP Nast, Franalations and more came together to decide on mashing up the Air Max 97 with the Air Max 1. Developing the textures and tones of the corduroy look inspired by the mix and match the aesthetics of thrift stores.

Skipping ahead we get clips of Round Two customers talking about voting for the submission and offering their thoughts on the design before it being officially announced as the winner of the On Air 2018 contest. Moving into the release, clips help illustrate the chaos that was the debut release in Richmond, Virginia which brought out heavy police presence before ultimately being canceled due to safety concerns.

Subsequent releases in New York were largely more orderly with fanfare around the Sean Wotherspoon x Nike Air Max 1/97 growing. At every turn of the release, Wotherspoon made it a point to help make the drop special by taking photos with fans and signing items. Rounding up the special video look, the Round Two team drove the Volkswagen Beetle Van that was synonymous with the shoe to a dead-end in New York to help officially mark the end of the madness that was the Sean Wotherspoon x Nike Air Max 1/97 release.
