The sculpture was created in collaboration with Pharrell Williams and utilizes Murakami's typical approach of kaleidoscopic colors, reinterpreting the artist's character Mr. DOB. Now, Murakami wears a pair of sneakers inspired by this sculpture that are limited to just three pairs.
Mr. Bailey's most notable inspiration for these Vibram rubber and EVA sole-equipped sneakers is The Simple Things' teeth, which take the form of an outsole for the bold sneaker. The seven jewel-encrusted "simple things" found inside the sculptures' mouth now appear as mini 3D-printed objects inside the tongue of each sneaker, while an outer bootie and colorful inner skin co-created with Construct:10061 nods to the skin of the sculpture and the inside of its mouth.
The moccasin-like sneaker is complete with fit-adjusting toggles, side zippers, bold interior lining and a box made from Japanese Takeo paper that opens to reveal a colorful interior lined with teeth. Take a closer look at Mr. Bailey's The Simple Things-inspired sneaker in the gallery above.
