After Maggie Rogers rose to fame by making Pharrell Williams cry tears of joy upon hearing her music in a NYU masterclass, her tune “Alaska” quickly dominated the airwaves. But it was Rogers’ unique synthesis of both electronic and folk elements that marked her breakout moment with immense distinction. Of course, artists have long fused styles and inspirations, but Rogers’ was unlike anything permeating the industry. Between her ethereal vocals and the use of organic, literal sounds from nature, and not to mention a folk-based background, Rogers ushered in a niche of indie electronic music that had yet seen the light of day. Now, the young artist, fresh off touring the world on behalf of her EP Now That The Light Is Fading, has teamed up with North Face to release her new single “Split Stones.”
“I took the first sound samples for ‘Split Stones’ on a month-long backpacking trip in Oregon during the summer of 2013; I’ve been collecting samples and piecing the song together in bedroom studios and trails ever since. I’m super excited about combining the two things I love-technology and the environment-to create a way that people can hear the song, but also feel a little bit a part of the action and process that inspired it.”
Roger’s signature sound is presented perfectly in the new track. “Split Stones” maintains the upbeat marrying of indie and electronic style fans have come to know, love, and expect from. But it’s with these expectations and a rapid rise to fame, that she’s announced it’s time for her to take a break. Thus the new single has been released as a parting gift. She detailed the release on Facebook, describing it as “the end of the beginning and the start of everything else.” View post in full below.
