Donald Glover Wins Big at the 2017 Emmy Awards for ‘Atlanta’

The 69th annual Emmy Awards happened on Sunday night, September 17. Taking place live from LA's Microsoft Theater, Donald Glover was one of the biggest winners of the night. He took home the award for Best Directing for a Comedy Series for his FX show Atlanta. Glover was the first black person to win an award in that category, and he also got an Emmy for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy.

During his acceptance speech, Glover sent a shout out to Donald Trump. “I want to thank Trump for making Black people number one on the most oppressed list,” Glover said. “He’s the reason I’m probably up here.” Glover took home two trophies for his work on the show Atlanta. Backstage, he was asked about new music and Glover said he didn't want to force a release yet.

However, he joked that if he doesn't put out a mixtape with Chance The Rapper soon, "a bunch of 14 year olds are gonna kick [his] ass.” The clip was the retweeted by Chance the Rapper.
